Optional challenge activity- Dividing by 10
There are two challenges to try if you’d like. The answers are provided
Task 1: Spellings- Year 3/4 spelling words
I have attached the table of Year 3/4 spelling words, which is a list of words that the children should feel reasonably confident spelling by the end of year 4. Choose 12 words that you feel you need more practise on from the list and spend the week learning them in any way you’d like. At the end of the week, test yourself on those 12 spellings. There is no PowerPoint this week as everyone will be choosing different spellings to practise.
Task 2 : SPaG- Editing
Lots of you enjoyed the editing task I set a couple of weeks ago so I thought that I would set you another one. This follows the same format as last time, and it is all to do with Internet safety. Choose the sheet that is most appropriate for you. The answers are provided.
Blue sheet: Requires you to edit for missing capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks and spelling mistakes.
Orange sheet: Requires you to edit for missing capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and spelling mistakes.
Green sheet: Requires you to edit for missing capital letters, full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas, apostrophes and spelling mistakes.
Task 3: Reading Comprehension
There are two options for this week. Choose one to complete.
Option 1: Complete the reading comprehension activity on Treasure House.
Option 2: Complete the Non-Text Reading Comprehension which involves looking closely at a picture and answering some questions.
Task 4: Creative Writing- A letter to my new teacher
Write a letter introducing yourself to your new Year 5 teacher, Mr Freeman. What would you like to tell him about yourself? Is there anything you’d like to ask him? I will pass these letters on to Mr Freeman so he can read them and start getting to know you all! Ideally these letters should be handwritten (so that Mr Freeman can see how amazing your handwriting is!) but if you’d prefer to type it then that is also fine.
Art- Self portraits
You have two options for this task. Choose one. I’m really excited to see the finished portrait!
Option 1: If you have access to a printer, print off a picture of yourself (a close-up picture of your face works well). Cut your face in half, down your nose! Stick one half of your face onto a piece of plain paper. Can you now draw the other half of your face?
Option 2: Use a mirror to carefully look at your face. Can you draw a self-portrait? You could add colour by using paint or pastels or even a collage!
Task 1: Evaporation, condensation or precipitation?
Last week we looked at the water cycle and we thought about evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Complete the sheet which gives you an example of something happening and you need to decide whether it is an example of evaporation, condensation or precipitation.
Task 2: Water Use survey
Complete the water use survey sheet which asks you to think about the amount of water you use in your home in one week.
Optional Task 3: There is also a water cycle cross word for you to try (answers provided!)
PSHE- My Goals for Year 5
As we reach the end of Year 4, have a think about all the things you’ve achieved. This has been a challenging year and we have all had to learn how to adapt! What are you most proud of? Have you surprised yourself? What are you most looking forward to learning about next year? Is there anything you’d like to change next year? Complete the ‘My Goals for Year 5’ sheet.
ICT- Touch Typing
Play Dance Mat Typing which is a fun way to learn touch typing! You start by learning the home row keys. Each stage builds on previous lessons, introducing new letters as you progress. You’ll soon be touch typing like an expert! At the end of each level you can test your typing speed and get a fun reward.
