I am really excited for this week’s home learning as a few parts of the week are going to be slightly different. I hope you enjoy it too!

Spellings

Please spend some time over the week practising your weekly spellings. There is an attached PowerPoint Presentation that goes through the spelling rule and gives you a chance to practise. The weekly spellings for this week are:

Optional challenge: Equivalent Fractions
There are two challenges for you to try. The answers are provided.

Literacy

Task 1: Spellings
Practise your weekly spellings and use the PowerPoint to help you. This week, you are allowed to practise your spellings however you want. You can write them in sentences, make flash cards, make a crossword/wordsearch etc.

Task 2: SPaG- Editing

Watch the video which looks at how to edit: https://youtube/NStK8iSrFsw

There are 3 sheets included in this task. Chose the sheet that is most suited to how you find the idea of editing.

Blue sheet is the easiest. You have to edit capital letters, full stops, spelling mistakes and incorrect verb tenses.

Orange sheet is slightly harder. You have to edit capital letters, full stops, spelling mistakes, incorrect verb tenses and missing commas to separate items in a list.

Green sheet is the hardest. You have to edit capital letters, full stops, spelling mistakes, incorrect verb tenses, missing commas used to separate items in a list and words with missing apostrophes.

Task 3: Reading Comprehension

There is no Treasure House reading comprehension this week. Instead, please complete the Winston Churchill reading comprehension. There are three different levels. 1 star is easier, 2 stars is slightly harder and 3 stars is more of a challenge. Choose the level most appropriate for you. Have a go at answering the questions once you’ve read the text. The answers are provided but you can also send them over to me if you’d like me to have a look.

Task 4: Creative Writing

Write a story with the title ‘The Disastrous Holiday’. Think about including some of the things we’ve looked at so far during our home learning, including fronted adverbials, inverted commas, lots of description… You could even write out your story and then spend some time editing it with a different colour!

Other tasks

Geography- Changing state

Follow the lesson PowerPoint and complete as many of the mini investigations as you can. Use the key words on each slide to help you verbally explain what is happening. By the end of this session, you should be able to use the terms freezing, evaporation and condensation to explain how water changes state. Use this website to help you understand:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkgg87h. Then complete the changing state activity  sheet where you have to use the words in the box to complete the sentences.

This is going to help us with next week’s lesson where we look at The Water Cycle.

Music- 2Sequence

One of your tasks on Purple Mash this week is to play around with 2Sequence. Drag and drop sounds into the grid to explore harmony and build up musical scores. There is a help video with this task (click in the button next to the exit button) that will talk you through how to use the program. Your finished piece should get sent through to me on Purple Mash when you save it and hand it in. I look forward to hearing what you come up with!

Topic- Owl’s ‘Alternative School Trip Day’

We would have normally been having our WW2 school trip to Horton Kirby on Thursday. So, this week I’d like you take Thursday (or a different day if that works better for you) off normal schoolwork and have a go at creating your own school trip at home! I have provided you with a sheet that gives you a bit more information and also loads of ideas of fun activities you and your family can do throughout the day. You DO NOT have to do every single one. Pick and choose activities that interest you, even if you only do one or two. Or come up with some of your own! You can even spread out the activities across the week if you’d prefer. If you’d like to get dressed up, then please do (and send photos). You can get your whole family involved if they want, including your siblings!  I, of course, would absolutely love to see everything you do but it is simply so I can enjoy and celebrate the fun you’ve had. The whole point of this activity is to learn more about WW2 but in a fun way, like you would have done on the trip. I’ve even tried to recreate some of the activities you would’ve done on the trip. Have fun!
