Waves in the Oceans.

The sea is always moving, with waves rising and falling. Look at the 2 video clips showing gentle and violent waves.

Wave clip 1

Wave clip 2

Different waves are created mainly by the weather – by wind and by the heat of the sun warming up the oceans.

Mimic the wind rippling the surface of water by blowing over its surface using a straw.  Let children experiment with using straws to blow across trays of water. Very strong winds generate enormous waves, as we saw in the second video!

Complete the ‘My Waves Word Bank’ activity, writing as many words as they can think of to describe waves.
