Wrap-Around Care at St Katharine's
At St Katharine’s, we offer a dedicated before- and after-school childcare service, run by Lauren and Chris — local residents and the team behind Samuelsie Farm Childcare. The Hive is designed with working families in mind, offering flexible booking options, last-minute availability, and sibling discounts.
Our child-centred approach focuses on fun, play, and social connection, giving children the chance to mix with others across different year groups. There’s always fresh fruit available, along with cereal and toast for breakfast and a hot snack after school.
Based in the Old School House, we have access to fantastic facilities including the Sports Hall, main field, and Forest School. With a wide range of engaging activities, The Hive is all about play and exploration — definitely not just a homework club!

We understand that parents’ working hours don’t always align with the school day — and sometimes, you just need a little extra time. That’s where we come in.
With over 25 years of experience in childcare, our team is fully trained in first aid and forest school principles, and all staff hold up-to-date DBS certificates for your peace of mind.
The Hive offers something truly different from the school day. Our child-led approach provides children with the chance to unwind, explore, and recharge after a busy day of learning. With a variety of indoor and outdoor activities and a mixed-age setting, it feels more like a fun, relaxed community than an extension of the classroom.
The Hive FAQ
We’re here for you at St Katharine’s from 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Thursday, and until 4:30pm on Fridays.
We also run a home-based childcare setting, so we may be able to offer additional hours when needed — just ask, and we’ll do our best to help.
Breakfast Club is £10
The Power Hour is £10 and £5 subsequent siblings
Full afternoon session is £18 and £12 for subsequent siblings
For breakfast we have a range of cereals with semi-skimmed milk and mix up our bakery offering with croissants, toast and bagels with a variety of toppings and of course, fruit!
After school we offer a light snack – this could be some pizza and veg, hot dogs, sandwiches or wraps or a little buffet.
We are happy to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements so please let us know if your child requires something specific.
We offer a wide range of activities and have access to the Sports Hall, main field, and Forest School. Cricket and football are always favourites, and we also take part in a weekly litter pick to help care for our environment. Indoors, children can enjoy making loom bands, building with Magnatiles, Mobilo, LEGO, and so much more. We also love getting creative with arts and crafts
We take this very seriously and currently cater for Celiacs, Vegetations and other dietary needs.
