Common Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you understand our staff and their roles better

We believe that, as the saying goes, “Two heads are better than one!”.  Miss Tormey has over twenty years of experience of being a Headteacher at St Katharine’s and, since September 2024, she and Mrs Veneziani (who has been at the school as Deputy Headteacher and Class Teacher for 4 years) now share the role. Miss Tormey is the Headteacher Monday-Wednesday and Mrs Veneziani Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Veneziani is in school all week so there is excellent continuity and communication.

For quick questions, you can chat to your child’s teacher at pick up or, if this isn’t possible/suitable contact them via email (email links are on class pages) or through our school office at [email protected]
There is always a member of staff – usually one of the Headteachers, Mrs Botley (SENDCO) or Mrs Brooker (ELSA) – at the gate from 8.30am and they can answer queries and pass on messages to class teachers. We’re here to help!

An ELSA stands for Emotional Literacy Support Assistant.  Mrs Brooker, our ELSA, is a highly trained member of staff who works with children and families to develop their emotional wellbeing. She helps children build emotional literacy, improve mental health, develop social skills, and enhance their overall emotional wellbeing.  In addition, she teaches PSHE across all the classes in KS2.

Our committed staff, working under the direction of our experienced SENDCO, Mrs Botley, works closely with parents and specialists to provide tailored support for children with special educational needs. We strive to ensure every child can thrive in our learning environment. Contact her on: [email protected]

We encourage our staff to be life long learners by supporting them in their own studies.  For example, Mrs Veneziani has recently completed her NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headship) and Miss Luckham-Down has completed her MA in Education and Creative Pedagogies – and been asked to publish one of her essays! Mrs Mathur is currently studying for her NPQH and we’re sure she’ll pass with flying colours!
