Our Christian Vision: Growing Hearts, Minds, and Faith
At the heart of our school vision is a beautiful parable from the Bible:
“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed… Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” – Matthew 13:31–32
Just as a tiny mustard seed grows into a tree that offers shelter to many, we believe every child has the potential to grow into something great. Our school is a nurturing place where small beginnings blossom into big dreams, rooted in the Christian values of Truth, Forgiveness, and Love.
Rooted in Truth, we teach our children to be honest, wise, and courageous. Whether it’s owning up to a mistake or standing up for what is right, we help our pupils grow firm foundations, just like the roots of a strong tree.
Flourishing in Forgiveness, we believe in second chances and the power of grace. Mistakes become learning opportunities, and kindness shapes how we respond to one another. We create a community where reconciliation is encouraged and celebrated.
Growing in Love, we reflect the love of Christ by encouraging kindness, empathy, and respect. Every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to show love in their words and actions—both in school and in the wider world.
Through this vision, we help every child flourish—spiritually, socially, and academically. Together with our families and community, we guide children to become the people God created them to be: wise, compassionate, confident, and ready to make a positive difference.

Our Vision and Values
A Strong Community
Our school thrives as a close-knit community where every family feels valued. We support each other in creating a safe place for children to grow, knowing they are surrounded by people who love them.
Matthew 18:5: "And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me."
Courageous Advocacy
At St Katharine's we believe in courageous advocacy—standing up for what is right, even when it's difficult. We encourage our children to use their voices to support fairness, kindness, and justice in their community and beyond. Through thoughtful discussion and action, we empower children to become confident advocates for positive change.
Proverbs 31:8-9: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
Celebrating Uniqueness
We create a loving environment, in which everyone can become the unique person God has created them to be, growing in wisdom, knowledge and skills and becoming life-long learners.
Psalm 139: "I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
What is the school’s vision?
Our vision is to create an inclusive learning environment that cultivates curiosity and creativity. We want our children to become responsible and tolerant global citizens who value diversity, forgive readily, and have concern for the needs of each other, the school, the wider community, and the planet.
How is RE taught at St Katharine's?
RE is taught in line with the Kent agreed syllabus using the Diocese of Rochester’s long-term plan 2023-2027.
It is taught by class teachers because they can call on their in-depth knowledge of the children in their class and the wider curriculum eg PSHE.
It is taught as part of Understanding the World in EYFS and weekly in KS1 (1hr) and KS2 (1¼ hrs).
When teaching Christianity (the main religion studied), class teachers use “Understanding Christianity” and when teaching other religions or Humanism and Universal, Rochester Diocese resources are used.
How is Collective Worship organised?
There is Collective Worship for all children every day. On Mondays the whole school gathers and worthip is led by one of the Headteachers. Rev Tim, who connects the school with St Katharine’s church, leads worship for the whole school on Tuesdays. Wednesdays is about worship through music, linked to the church calendar or particular events for the whole school. On Thursdays worship is divided into Key Stages and led by class teachers on rotation (encouraging children to see all adults as leading worship) to allow for a more tailored, age-specific response to the theme of worship for the week.
Fridays is celebration worship lead by one of the Headteachers. The whole school comes together to reflect on the Christian theme of the week and celebrate achievements eg Headteacher gold, “Always” awards, WOW work, TTRS, sports.
We also have collective worship led by HiStory Troupe and Crossteach, local Christian organisations.
How is the vision expressed?
Our vision is lived out through our values. It is taken directly from Scripture, which is a hallmark of Anglican theological tradition and lived out through the school values. By rooting its core statement in the Bible, St Katharine’s reflects its commitment to the Christian faith as expressed through the Church of England.
It is visually displayed in each classroom and communal areas eg prayer corners, WOW work outside HTs’ office, displays in the hall.
Anglican responses are used at the start of collective worship to unite the school.
It is expressed through dance and drama at Christmas (service and Nativities) and Easter (play), ensuring that, across the whole year, all children across the school are involved in leading and/or taking part in worship.
