Here are your tasks for this week 29/6/20

FORCES AND MAGNETS 2

Faster or Slower lesson

  •  I can investigate the effects of friction on different surfaces.

Friction

Watch video which explains what friction is and complete the 2 activities just as an introduction to this lesson. Complete SCIENCE FRICTION SHEET!  Examples brakes on a bike, or ice on an ice rink is useful. Ice on the footpath is dangerous. Test your shoes for friction.

In this session you should design your own test to investigate friction. Choose test A or B

Test A

How does friction work as a force?

This video recaps what a force is and shows a group of children testing different surfaces to compare how quickly they slow down the moving car. So all you need to do is carry out a similar test.

You could compare grass to carpet or paved patio to tiles in kitchen.

Test B

On the SCIENCE TEST 2 FRICTION powerpoint there is a different test described. This test measures how much force is needed before the car starts to move on different surfaces. Read through the slides and make sure you understand what they mean.

Before you choose, Test A or B check you have all the things you need.

A toy car, something to measure a measuring tape or put markers on the ground to show distance. Remember you just want to see which surface enables car to travel the furthest.

Have you got all the equipment you need?

Now do your test.

Fill in the sheet SCIENCE TEST ON DIFFERENT SURFACES or write up you own test using photos or drawings to show what you did and what you found out.

PLEASE SEND ME A PHOTO OF YOUR INVESTIGATION or A PHOTO OF YOU DOING INVESTIGATION.
