Home Learning

Dear Otters’ Parents and Carers,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to send you best wishes and to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families. I hope you all keep well and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Otters have been fantastic over this challenging period and have shown their developing maturity in dealing with the news and still going about business with their usual gusto.

Over the coming weeks, I would like to keep the children’s learning moving forward and in this I ask for your help.

The expectation, during term time, will be that Otters access 2 hours per day of structured learning, from tasks that I will upload to the class page, Monday to Friday. This learning will include: 4 sessions of Maths; English, which will include comprehensions, SPaG and writing tasks; and a variety of other tasks drawn from the curriculum (including, but not limited to: Geography, History, Art, DT, Science, Computing and PE).

Outside of these 2 hours, I also ask that all children read a high quality text for 35 minutes per day (this can include reading aloud, independently or sharing stories with siblings), practicing spellings and times tables and spend time doing physical activities.

You are welcome to organise the day to day learning however you like, but I ask that the Maths and English are spread across the week.

I also ask that you, as the deliverer of the lessons, please support me in this endeavour to further their learning by printing worksheets, supporting and prompting where necessary, marking and occasionally returning tasks to me via email.

Please bear with me over the first few weeks as we iron out any difficulties, but please do feel free to contact me if you are struggling in any way and I will endeavour to answer emails as promptly as I can through the regular working hours.

Thank you in advance for your support and I hope we can all ensure the children are supported in their learning journeys.

Yours Sincerely,

James Freeman
