Dear Owls

A special Easter Message from Miss Steyn, Mrs Follett and Mrs Brooker.  Please watch the video but promise not to laugh at Mrs Brooker's dancing !

Dear Owls’ Parents,

This has been a challenging and worrying time for all of us. I hope and pray that you and your loved ones are well and I am sending my thoughts and well wishes out to all of you.

It is our intention to deliver as much of the normal school curriculum as we possibly can while the children are at home. It is important that the children’s learning continues and I ask for your help in encouraging this.

Work will be set each week that will need to be completed. It is the expectation that children will be accessing about 2 hours a day of learning Monday-Friday (excluding school holidays). In addition to this, I expect that children continue with their daily reading. I suggest 30 minutes of this a day and it can be independent reading, reading aloud or shared reading with an adult or sibling. The children should also spend some time each day practising their times tables.

Activities and tasks for the 2 hours a day of learning will be set through the school website and it will be updated each week. I will aim to set some maths learning 4 days a week and some literacy that includes SPaG (comprehension, spelling, punctuation and grammar) activities, reading comprehensions and some written tasks. There will be some other topic related tasks. How you organise and structure the learning will be up to you, but the maths and literacy need to be spread out across the week.

Please note that children should, wherever possible, continue with physical activity and time should be set aside each day to maintain fitness levels. This is good for both physical and mental health. Cosmic Kids is a great YouTube channel which has a wide selection of Yoga videos and also a great series of mindfulness/meditation videos which can really help the children relax. We also enjoy dance videos in Owl Class, which can be accessed on YouTube too.

You will need to consider how you will structure your children’s learning time. Familiar routine will be very helpful for both you and the children!

Please bear with me through any teething problems and let’s all work together to support the children as best as we can. My email address is ImogenSteyn@knockholt.kent.sch.uk and I will be available during our normal school opening hours. I will respond to you as quickly as I can.

Keep safe and look after yourselves.

Best wishes,

Miss Steyn
