Geography Waves in the Oceans. The sea is always moving, with waves rising and falling. Look at the 2 video clips showing gentle and violent waves. Different waves are created mainly by the weather – by wind and by the heat of the sun warming up the oceans. Mimic the wind rippling the surface of water by blowing over its surface using a straw. Let children experiment with using straws to blow across trays of water. Very strong winds generate enormous waves, as we saw in the second video!
