Home Learning

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Squirrels class page.  This page will be updated weekly with tasks for the children to complete. The expectation is that children will do a minimum of 2 hours work each day, either a paper-based activity which might need printing out or an online activity using Purple Mash. This will be monitored. They should not be encouraged to complete everything within the first day but maintain their learning over the course of the whole week in order to consolidate knowledge and understanding.

I will list 5 numeracy and literacy activities (one for each day) and a range of other subjects and mini-projects. In addition to this, children will be expected to read every day. I cannot stress enough the importance of reading with your child and this includes them being read to, as well as hearing them read. Children will have access to Big Cat where there is online access to numerous banded reading books and where I will set reading comprehension activities.

Physical activity is also important during this period of isolation. Please encourage your child to remain active and limit screen time. Each week I will suggest activities and include internet links for fun exercises and dances.

I understand that this is going to be a very difficult time for everybody and there might be a few teething problems at first. Please feel free to contact me if you have any problems or concerns. You can use Class Dojo or my email address which is DawnJerwood@knockholt.kent.sch.uk  I will check regularly throughout the day and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please take care

Dawn Jerwood
