Optional challenge activity- Perimeter

There are two challenges to try if you’d like to. The answers are provided.

Literacy

Task 1: Spellings
Practise your weekly spellings and use the PowerPoint to help you. Can you write some sentences that include your spellings?

Task 2: SPaG- Words according to shades of meaning

Shades of meaning distinguishes between the small, subtle differences between words. For example, the adjectives ‘happy’ and ‘ecstatic’ both show an emotion, but one packs a bigger punch than the other.

Work through the activity sheet which has three tasks for you to complete. You might want to use a thesaurus (an online one would work) for this activity.

Task 3: Reading Comprehension

Complete the reading comprehension activity on Treasure House.

Task 4: Creative Writing-

(see Topic)

Other tasks

Science- Solid, liquid or gas?

This week we are going to start our new science topic which is going to focus on States of Matter. Go through the PowerPoint to find out more about solids, liquids and gases.

Task 1: Cut out the material sorting cards and sort them according to whether they are a solid, a liquid or a gas. If you want to save on printing, look at each picture on the screen and think about which group it belongs to. Some of them might require a bit of thinking/discussion! The answers are on the PowerPoint.

Task 2: Have a look at the information boxes on the particles and properties activity sheet. Can you work out which diagram and explanation goes with each state (solid, liquid, gas)? 1 star is easier, 2 stars is harder and 3 stars is more of a challenge. Choose which is most appropriate for you and your understanding. If you don’t want to cut the cards out you can write on the sheet and draw the particles.

Topic- Evacuation

Watch this video about Betty who lived in Cardiff during the war and was evacuated to Aberdare: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SYDBJAwYCI

Task 1: Letter as an evacuee

Imagine you are a child that was evacuated during the Second World War. Write a letter home to your family. Think about the things you’d want to include in your letter. Where have you moved from? Where have you been evacuated to? What was the journey to the countryside like? What is your host family like? What is the house like you now live in? What is your new school/teacher like? Have you made any new friends? What are you missing about home? Are you happy? There is a lot to include! This task is also your Creative Writing task for the week, so I’m expecting some really good work!

PSHE- How I’ve changed…

If you can, find a picture of when you were younger. Think about all the ways you have changed since you were younger. This might be physically (you’re definitely a lot taller now!) but it might also be in the things you like and things you don’t like. Are there some things about you that will never change? Perhaps you could also include a picture of what you look like now to compare! You can record your thoughts in any way you like but I want to hear all about how you’ve changed since you were younger.

Optional fun activity!

Can you make a den/fort somewhere in your house? Make it comfy and cosy and spend some time in there relaxing! Maybe you’d like to do some reading in your den or perhaps you’d like to watch a movie in there. Send me a photo of you chilling out in your den!

Purple Mash

There will be some activities for you to complete on Purple Mash. Log in and go to ‘2Dos’ and complete the tasks that have been set. I will be able to see how you got on once you’ve finished. This week there are two Purple Mash Cams tasks: WW2 Evacuee Boy and WW2 Evacuee Girl. You don’t have to do both! Choose which one you want to do and leave the other one.

Physical Activity
Fitness Bingo! Have a go at playing fitness bingo with your family. The rules are explained on the document.

Make sure you try and get outside for a little bit each day. Go on a morning walk or do some exercises in your garden. Fresh air is really important!

Don’t forget to spend some time every day reading and practising your times tables. You can complete the Daily 10 everyday too https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10

If you’d like to continue keeping up to date with the news, watch the daily and weekly news on Espresso (weekly news updated every Thursday). Newsround is also another good one to look at https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround
